Week 7 Blog

Week 7 had its high points and its low points for Food for Thought.  The low points were that finding sponsors of the program has been slower than we would have liked.   We have looked into a number of grocery stores with little success so far.  The high point was that, at the end of the week, we had a very promising meeting with Food Lion.  There seems to be a lot of potential there for sponsorship.  Outside of looking for sponsors, we have spent time working on the documentary and preparing for the presentation.

Next week, we have a ton of meetings scheduled.  We think that these meetings will really help strengthen our program.  For example, we are meeting with Nandini, a Duke grad who is putting together a cookbook for low income families.  His knowledge and his cookbook could be a great asset for Food for Thought.  We are also meeting with an organization focused on improving the health of the community.  They could be a great resource.   It is amazing how we continue to make connections with new people.  There are always new things to learn.

I am satisfied with what we have been able to accomplish this summer.  Our program will be ready for the fall, which was the initial goal when we headed in to the summer.  There have been a few lasting disappointments (especially with the garden) but we have also discovered some great resources, most notably the nutritionists.  It will be exciting to see all our hard work come to fruition in the fall.
